Houston, TX – Houston’s Energy Day Festival returned on Saturday, October 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston. This year marked the Festival’s 11th anniversary of bringing Houston-area K-12 students, educators and their families together with Houston’s leading companies and industry experts for a day of interactive learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner joined Energy Day for another year, surprising attendees by meeting with future STEM superstars and their families.

Hosted by the Consumer Energy Education Foundation (CEEF) and Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), Energy Day featured more than 50 interactive exhibits and demonstrations from some of Houston’s top companies and organizations including the City of Houston, NASA, University of Houston, Caterpillar, TechnipFMC, Apache Corporation, Chevron, Sunnova, H-E-B, TC Energy, Liberty Energy, Solar and Storage Industries Institute, Marathon Petroleum, Verde CO2, Vallourec, American Petroleum Institute and more, to show kids the fun side of STEM and the exciting career opportunities in energy and energy-related industries.

Students and educators from across 15 Houston-area school districts attended this year’s Festival designed to spark an interest in STEM by highlighting the ongoing advancements in energy and various high-tech industries. During this year’s festival, over $10,000 in academic awards were awarded to students and teachers as part of Energy Day’s Academic Program (EDAP), a series of energy-focused competitions that aim to motivate, challenge and inspire young minds to seek STEM careers.

“Energy Day is a fun, inspiring family event designed to show kids of all ages the exiting career opportunities that an education in STEM can create through hands-on experiments and interactive exhibits,” CEEF Founder and CEA President David Holt said. “Thank you to our sponsors for supporting the next generation of Houston’s energy workforce and creating opportunities for Houston’s youth to discover all that our energy and energy-related industries have to offer. For the past 11 years we’ve had the privilege of witnessing students’ curiosity for STEM ignited while discovering the exciting ways to they can use STEM education in real-world applications.” Holt said.
